IIO Deployed to Surrey to Investigate Officer Involved Shooting

SURREY – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) confirms it has deployed investigators to Surrey and has taken over the investigation after being notified of an officer involved shooting.

The IIO was notified of the incident at 5.29 p.m.

Preliminary information suggests police were involved in a vehicle check in the area of 108 Ave and 148 St and during this contact, a member of the CFSEU-BC Uniform Gang Enforcement Unit discharged his firearm into the vehicle striking the affected person.

The affected person sustained injury and has been transported to hospital.

IIO personnel will be on scene for several hours and will be working cooperatively with the involved police agency as per the MOU.

The Surrey RCMP remains responsible for any and all parallel investigations.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to call the IIO Witness Line at 1-855-446-8477. As this is an active investigation and in the early stages, no other information will be available at this time.
