Working within the British Columbia Royal Canadian Mounted Police Hub (BC RCMP Hub), the Organized Crime Agency of BC (OCABC) is recruiting a highly motivated applicant to be responsible for developing and establishing scalable, automated processes for large scale data analyses and model development, validation and implementation. The Data Engineer will support data initiatives and ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. Further responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
• Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
• Identify, design and implement internal process improvements by automating manual processes,
optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability
• Build infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data form wide
variety of sources
• Build data pipelines for analytic tools that provide actionable insights into operational efficiency
and other key business performance metrics
• Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist in building and
optimizing products

The successful candidate must possess strong leadership skills with extensive experience in directing a project from inception to completion, with the ability to provide recommendations and guidance on a variety of projects, in addition to the following qualifications:

• Graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field
• 5+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role
• Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query
authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
• Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
• Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer
specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
• Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres and Cassandra.
• Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow, etc.
• Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift
• Experience with stream-processing systems: Storm, Spark-Streaming, etc.
• Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
• Ability to work in Canada
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Annual Salary (37.5 hours per week): $99,368.40 – $104,833.56- $110,298.72 – $115,763.88 – $ 121,229.04
