Permanent Full-Time – Green Timbers

Working within the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit – BC (CFSEU-BC), the Organized Crime Agency of BC (OCABC) is recruiting a hard working, self-motivated candidate. Reporting to the Manager of the Strategic Research Office, the Strategic Research Analyst will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out advanced quantitative and qualitative research on a wide range of organized crime and gang studies; applying strong research principles and practices to both team and independent operational research projects; deploying multidisciplinary approaches to analyze large volumes of information from diverse sources to inform and contextualize decision making;
  • Developing research designs appropriate for answering applied research questions; accessing restricted and open data sources, and evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of collection methods and tools;
  • Performing in-depth multivariate statistical analyses of structured/unstructured all source data, with a focus on knowledge discovery for predictive rather than purely descriptive purposes; producing accurate and timely performance metrics to support program evaluation;
  • Adding insight to gang crime, while evaluating the underlying causes and social determinants of this behaviour; reviewing operational policing and policy issues while summarizing, describing, and explaining them through applied research; conducting action and long-range research on pressing issues to help measure the impact of organized crime more accurately;
  • Providing regular and ad hoc briefings and reports to various stakeholders on research findings; presenting findings by communicating complex ideas using oral briefings, written reports, and data visualization for police and non-police audiences; and
  • Working in partnership with other law enforcement, government officials, and external researchers during the course of strategic research to recommend full-spectrum strategies (education, prevention, intervention, enforcement) which reduce gang activity and increase public trust and confidence in the CFSEU-BC programCFSEU-BC is looking for a strong team player with a positive attitude with the following qualifications:
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university in the social sciences, economics, applied statistics, or business administration. Preferred Education: Completion of a Master’s Degree in noted scholarly disciplines
  • Minimum 3-5 years of related experience, preferably in a public safety environment
  • Significant experience using IBM’s Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS); ArcGIS and ArcPro; R (forstatistical computing); UCINET; and other analytical systems
  • Specialized training and experience in such areas as: data mining and manipulation; designing, standardizing, andaggregating “big data” sets; descriptive and inferential statistical techniques; describing relationships between

    variables; running syntax commands; as well as predictive modeling and simulation

  • Experience in writing a range of products such as briefing notes, discussion papers, research reports, systematicreviews, and meta-analyses
  • Demonstrate statistical literacy with the ability to critically analyze an issue using evidence, and translate thesefindings into operational and policy decision making
  • Knowledge of the organized crime/gang landscape of British Columbia is an asset

    Hourly Rate (up to 37.5 hours per week): $69,439 – $72,217 – $74,994 – $77,772 – $80,550
